RELAX, RESTORE, REJUVENATE,
These three little words can mean so many different things to us as individuals.
Maybe the way you relax is walking on the beach and talking to friends. Maybe it’s by cutting loose on the dance floor and laughing out loud until it hurts with happy tears rolling down your face. Maybe it’s a little gentle yoga followed by a delicious meal that you didn’t have to cook. Maybe it’s just being out of town with no schedule to worry about that includes work, children or spouses.
I had the pleasure and honor of guiding 19 women on a yoga retreat to St. Simons
Island this past weekend. What a treat it was for me to watch the laughter, the joy, the smiles and the conversations that were abound.
These yogis showed up ready to take what the long weekend gave them and learn from one another that they are capable of anything. They stepped outside their box and tried SUP (stand up paddle board). Others had never been to St. Simons Island, GA. Still some had not attended a cooking class and eaten seafood.
We learned many things from one another, but the most important lesson was acceptance of each other’s personality, style and lives. When was the last time you laughed until you cried? You danced freely with others and had no inhibitions? You tried something that scared you?
These are the reasons that yoga to me is a more than a practice. Before you judge those of us who are committed to our yoga practice as obsessive, self-centered or vain, please know that for most of us our yoga mat is our escape, our refuge, our sanity. A place where we work on being strong physically and emotionally.
Try something new or commit to something more fully... I promise you, You wont regret it!!
